circa. dated 1760

A Rare British Military Heavy Dragoon Flintlock Pistol by; "EDGE 1760".  12", .70 cal. round steel barrel.  Pattern 1738 type II (with-out relief carving around the lock and the lock plate contour becoming more straight than the earlier banana shape).  The lock marked; "EDGE, 1760", "CROWN" over "GR" (King George III).  Brass regulation furniture.  Ram rod is missing but can be replaced.  Stock is marked w/a "stores keepers mark" just above the rear of lock plate.  Stock is stable w/an age crack in the wrist and large section of wood missing from the upper edge in front of the lock extending to the fore-end (this could be restored but, the wood damage accured during the period of use and remained this way to present leaving the edges "glass smooth" from human hands over the  past 247 years and should remain so).  All steel parts have a pleasing stable dark brown-black age patina.  A great British military colonial flintlock pistol that may have seen service in the French and Indian war (1757-1763) and the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783).  In good working order.
Measures:  19.25" overall length.
